Racing takes place on the high tide mostly out in Bass Straight off the river mouth . Course racing is held around buoys placed in relation to the wind direction . A course briefing is held before racing. All yachts are supported by the 5.3 metre Stabie Craft & two Ribs.
The fleet welcomes all classes and uses Victorian Yardsticks and a club handicap system to calculate results. Classes sailed are Hartley TS 16’s, Castle 650 Lidiard 8, Lasers, 420, Sabots, Sabres, Optis, NS14, Mirror, Hansa 303s and the occasional Cat. Club owned Pacers, Optis or 303s are welcome to join in racing.

Casual sailing is held on Saturday mornings for anyone learning or just wanting a fun sail without the pressure of competition. Juniors are encouraged to attend and club members are always available to assist with junior development.
Morning sailing is typically held in the Inglis river and occasionally outside the river if the weather permits. There is a safety boat operator and crew supervising the on water activities with canteen lunch available most weekends at 12 noon.
Club pacers, optimists and 303s are available for people to sail.

We welcome people without regard to age, ability, gender or socio-economic status as sailors or volunteers. If you have a disability, you are especially welcome. We have the boats, facilities, experience and resources to teach you to sail and allow you to broaden your horizons.
Established Jan 2014 Sailability Tasmania’s North West arm is based out of the Wynyard Yacht Club and is already providing opportunity’s for many participants WYC provide boat and lifejackets.
